European research

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European research is the academic discipline that deals with the companies in Europe. Her research subject is both the present and the past of European societies. As a special sociology it is more recent. The scientific discipline emerged around the same time as the European Coal and Steel Community in 1951. European research is often limited to the societies of the member states of the European Union and to the time after the fall of the Iron Curtain . The transnational interdependencies within Europe have increased enormously since the early 1990s.

In contrast to European ethnology , European research does not deal with everyday human culture , but with conditions and processes of society as a whole, and works transnationally.

Research priorities

The European research examines

  • the dimensions of Europeanization
  • the social effects of the European Union (open borders and markets), e.g. intra-European migration
  • the change in social relationships and the living conditions of people in Europe
  • the internationalization of social interactions, attitudes and interpretations

European researcher in German-speaking countries

Important theories on European studies often come from the holders of the Jean Monnet chairs. ( Jean Monnet Program ) This award is linked to a strong European orientation of the chairs in research and teaching. For example, Tanja A. Börzel ( Free University of Berlin ) made important contributions to the subject, and Martin Heidenreich ( Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg ), spokesman for the DFG research group "European socialization processes", provided important insights into the Europeanization of the labor market and transnational mobility of EU citizens. Herbert Brücke is considered an important migration researcher who studies intra-European migration flows.
