Europaturm in Mulhouse

The Europe Tower (French: Tour de l'Europe ) in Mulhouse is at 100 meters the highest skyscraper of Alsace . Designed by the architect François Spoerry , it was built between April 1969 and 1972 and is considered the city's modern landmark. The Europaturm was opened in 1973 by the then mayor of Mulhouse, Émile Muller.

The three-legged floor plan of the high-rise symbolizes the location of Mulhouse on the border triangle France, Switzerland and Germany. Its facade is concave . Including the basements, the Tour de l'Europe has 37 floors. On the 29th floor at 92 meters there is a 550 square meter terrace that has been closed to the public since the mid-1980s. At the top of the high-rise building at 97 meters is a structurally separated revolving restaurant on the 31st floor. It rotates around its axis once every 75 minutes. The 30th floor houses the management of the panorama restaurant. An antenna is installed on the roof of the restaurant so that the structure, including the antenna, is 112 meters high. On the forecourt of the skyscraper, the coats of arms of the international city partnerships of Mulhouse are embedded in the pavement.

The high-rise building, which is primarily used for commercial purposes, has 180 apartments and five elevators that run at 3 meters per second. Only the elevator with the highest transport capacity goes to the 29th floor. A smaller, separate elevator connects the 29th floor with the revolving restaurant and the associated floors. According to the first project planning in 1965, the high-rise should have been 130 meters high, trumping the Pirelli high-rise in Milan . Due to additional construction costs for safety requirements, the original height was reduced to 100 meters.
