The European Astronomical Society (EAS) is an organization for the promotion of astronomy in Europe based in Geneva .

History and activity

The EAS, founded in 1990, is an association of specialist astronomers regardless of their area of ​​work, residence or country of origin. Associations, publishers and non-profit organizations can also become institutional members. The EAS deals with issues that need to be dealt with in the interests of the astronomical community at European level. It works with national astronomical associations and European research organizations.

The EAS organizes specialist conferences, in particular the annual European Week of Astronomy and Space Science (EWASS), has awarded the Tycho Brahe Prize since 2008 and promotes communication between European astronomers via newsletters, conference proceedings and a job exchange.
