European Atherosclerosis Society
The European Atherosclerosis Society , or EAS for short, was founded in 1964 with the aim of increasing and disseminating knowledge about the causes, development, treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis . The EAS is led by a regularly re-elected committee, the company's office has been in Malmö since 2002 and was relocated to Gothenburg in 2009 .
The EAS has around 1000 members, mostly European doctors and researchers and corporate members. It maintains close contacts with national and international societies with a similar focus and is itself a member of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) . For the publication of scientific papers in the field of atherosclerosis research it publishes the journal Atherosclerosis .
In addition to smaller workshops, an international congress is organized every year, with the exception of the years in which an IAS symposium takes place (in future also parallel to non-European IAS symposia). The congresses are primarily aimed at a specialist audience consisting of academic researchers, clinicians and industry representatives. Up to 3000 participants take part in each congress.
Other EAS activities include the development and publication of clinical guidelines for the treatment of atherosclerosis, the support of scientific and clinical projects and the promotion of young scientists from the medical and scientific fields. Various prizes are awarded, including the Anitschkow Prize for outstanding research in the field of atherosclerosis and related metabolic changes.
