European Cities Marketing
European Cities Marketing (ECM) is the international name in 1991 Heidelberg , Germany European Städtetourimusverbandes founded on Franco-German initiative (FOTVE - Federation of Tourist Offices of Villes Européennes, FECTO - Federation of European Cities' Tourist Offices). FECTO later appeared under the brand name European Cities Tourism (ECT). In 2006/2007 the association, which existed under French association law, merged with the European Federation of Conference Towns (EFCT) to form European Cities Marketing. Since then, two forums have been held in the network of around 120 cities from 39 nations, one ( Tourism Forum ) for tourism in general and one ( Convention Forum) for congresses and meetings. In line with the international trend, the portfolio has been expanded to include City Marketing in order to meet the holistic requirements that are currently becoming increasingly important in the marketing of cities. This was taken into account by the fact that there are now three vice-presidents in addition to the president, Dieter Hardt-Stremayr, Graz, who represent the three main topics that modern destination management and destination marketing organizations deal with.
Currently these are:
- Laura Aalto, Helsinki, for Leisure & Tourism
- Sam Johnston, Dublin, for the meetings industry
- Barbara Jamison, London, for City Marketing
Since its inception, ECM has held annual meetings (with general assemblies) in June, followed by spring and autumn meetings later. The big autumn conferences have been canceled since 2011 to give the so-called knowledge groups the opportunity to hold all-day events. Each host city is a member city. The association works with the European Travel Commission , the umbrella organization for national destination marketing organizations, and with TourMIS , a tourism marketing information system . ECM working language is English.
The association's office has been in Dijon , France , since its inception . Presidents were:
