European Congress of Radiology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) is the largest European congress for radiology , which takes place annually at the beginning of March in Vienna , Austria . More than 28,000 participants from over 130 countries took part in this conference in 2018.

history

The ECR was founded in 1967 by the physicist Boris Rajewsky and the radiologist Charles Marie Gros and initially held every four years at different locations. Organizational and financial reasons as well as the establishment of a common European platform led to the establishment of a committee in 1985 under the leadership of Josef Lissner from Munich, which dealt exclusively with the organization of the congress and relations with the medical technology industry. The congress intervals were intensified to two years, and as one of the first regular congresses in Europe, the ECR was tied to a fixed location with the Vienna location.

At the end of the 1980s a program committee consisting of over 120 radiologists from all over the world was institutionalized, which was able to organize the first “new” ECR in September 1991 under the presidency of Josef Lissner. A separate office was subsequently set up and the legal headquarters of the association was established in Vienna. The 2-year interval became an annual one from 1999.

Effects

  • The ECR has also contributed to the development of new congress tools (e.g. EPOS TM - Electronic Presentation Online System).
  • The merger of the ECR with the European Radiology Association (EAR) in 2005 resulted in the European Society of Radiology (ESR), which has since acted as a representative of the interests of radiology within the European Union, based in Vienna.
