The European Multilateral Clearing Facility (EMCF) is one of the largest European Central Counterparties for clearing for Multilateral Trading Systems (MTF); The company is a joint venture of Fortis Bank (78%) and the NASDAQ OMX Group (22%).

backgrounds

EMCF has been clearing the MTF Chi-X Europe since the start on March 29, 2007 . As of September 28, 2008, the clearing for Nasdaq OMX Europe was also taken over and BATS Trading Europe has also been processed via EMCF since October 31, 2008.

In July 2009, the London Stock Exchange announced its intention to acquire a stake in EMCF. However, due to differing price expectations, these discussions were ended again in June 2010.
