European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment

The European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment ( EUROCAE) deals exclusively with aviation standards, both for systems and for equipment in the air and on the ground. EUROCAE was founded in Lucerne (Switzerland) in 1963 by a resolution of the European Civil Aviation Conference focusing on electronic equipment for air traffic.

EUROCAE has been a not-for-profit organization for more than 50 years, with members comprised of stakeholders from across the aviation industry, including regulators, manufacturers, service providers, users (such as airlines and airports) and universities. Membership is not limited to the European region.

From the beginning, EUROCAE has developed documents that are exclusively intended for the aviation industry. EUROCAE documents are used by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as guidance material and by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) as means of compliance for documents of the European Technical Standard Approval (ETSOs) and other regulatory documents.

In order to achieve the desired global harmonization of aviation standards, EUROCAE works closely with RTCA , Inc. and SAE International. About 50% of the EUROCAE working groups (WG) work with RTCA and another 10% with SAE . The joint development of standards and the subsequent reference to them by EASA and FAA as Acceptable Means of Compliance enables a globally harmonized implementation of specific applications or systems based on the state of the art. This includes planes, but also satellites.

The EUROCAE documents are also drawn up in the context of the applicable ICAO standards and are coherent with the existing ARINC specifications in order to ensure global interoperability.

EUROCAE documents (ED) are developed by the working groups (WG) made up of voluntary experts from the member organizations of EUROCAE and - in the case of joint activities - from RTCA and SAE . Before publication, the ED go through a rigorous internal and external review process (open consultation) to ensure the high quality of the approved standards. Since its inception, EUROCAE has published more than 250 EDs.

The management of EUROCAE is led by the Council, which is composed of senior staff from the full members elected by the annual general assembly. A Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), made up of technical experts in various aviation areas, advises the Council on technical decisions. The day-to-day work of the organization is carried out by the EUROCAE Secretariat, a collective term for the Secretary General, program managers and administrative staff.

The EUROCAE offices are located in Saint-Denis , France (Greater Paris).
