European Research Infrastructure Consortium

A European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) is a special legal form in Europe for the cooperation of various research associations with the aim of establishing and maintaining joint research infrastructures . Since research infrastructures are becoming increasingly complex and larger, ERICs should lead to a concentration of activities and thus research simplify and improve. ERICs are part of the activities to promote research infrastructures, including research infrastructures of European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (Engl. European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures) ( ESFRI belong) and major European infrastructures such as the CERN , The European Mouse Mutant Archive or GÉANT .

financing

An ERIC is funded by the countries that join the ERIC, but can also apply for funding projects as a legal entity . It is not funded as a body of the European Commission .

Legal basis

The legal basis for the creation of ERICs is created by a regulation of the European Commission .
