Euroregion Silva Nortica
Silva Nortica is a Euroregion , and thus one of numerous cross-border associations, which is intended to promote cross-border cooperation between municipalities and regional organizations (see list of European regions ). It includes municipalities and other actors in the Waldviertel in Austria and the Jihočeský kraj (South Bohemian region) in the Czech Republic . The Euroregion is a voluntary working group without legal capacity of its own .
The name "Silva Nortica" (translated northern forest, in sources also "silva nordica" or "nortica silva") is a historical name of the extensive, previously only sparsely populated forest belt north of the Danube.
The logo of the Euroregion represents a tree and water, which are typical for the Waldviertel and South Bohemia. The nine stars on the logo stand for the nine districts (five Waldviertel and four South Bohemian districts) that make up the Euroregion.
aims
The goals of the Euroregion are the "sustainable development of the border area", cross-border infrastructure, protection of the environment, aid to agriculture and landscape maintenance, development of tourism and an increase in the quality of life for people. The pursuit of these goals takes place using the EU programs, a common structure and development strategies, high-quality projects, elimination of psychological and physical boundaries, well-developed Euregio, satisfied neighbors and interregional cooperation.
history
The Euroregion "Silva Nortica" was founded on May 28, 2002 in the Gmünd / Ceske Velenice business park . The administrative and administrative area expanded to include the Waldviertel and South Bohemian region . In order to broaden the range of influence, the Association of European Border Regions joined in 2005 . In the same year, the Austrian secretariat moved the headquarters from Edelhof / Zwettl to Zwettl . The project offer was then expanded so that the planning of cross-border bike paths was now dealt with . The program "European Territorial Cooperation Austria - TSCHR", which ran until 2013, was prepared and launched by the Euroregion in 2007. In the following year, further important cross-border projects, such as B. "Mobility without borders" and "ERSN business platform" were launched, each of which was active up to 2011. The region was strengthened by the support and recognition of international, regional and state institutions and from 2009 to 2011 membership in the "Association of Euroregios of the Czech Republic"
geography
Czech part
The Czech side of the Euregion extends over an area of 6035 km², around 444,500 people live in the region. The region is part of the Czech massif and has a substantial contingent of the Wittingau and Budweiser basins. Recreation, traditional pond farming and agriculture are paramount here. Natural and cultural monuments are strongly represented in this region. With 70 km² of water, the Rožmberk Rosenberg pond is one of the largest in Europe.
Austrian part
On the Austrian side of the Euregion, the Waldviertel extends over an area of 4604 km² and is home to around 224,000 people. The increase in the forest district is due to the Czech massif, which is characterized by weathering of granite and gneiss. Forestry and agriculture are based on small and medium-sized enterprises. Tourism relies on health and sports.
