Eustathios I (Constantinople)
Eustathios I (Greek Ευστάθιος ) was Patriarch of Constantinople (1019-1025).
Life
Eustathios was protopresbyter in the imperial palace in Constantinople . In July 1019 he became Patriarch of Constantinople. In 1024 he was involved in a Byzantine offer to reach an agreement with the Catholic Church on the various positions in questions of canon law. He made Pope John XIX. the proposal to call himself the Ecumenical Patriarch in suo orbe ( in his world empire ) and the Pope in universo ( in the world ).
According to Johannes Skylitzes , Eustathios died a few days before Emperor Basil II , who died on December 12 or 15.
