Euzhan Palcy
Euzhan Palcy (born February 13, 1958 in Martinique , France ) is a French film director and screenwriter .
Life
In 1975 Euzhan Palcy received her Masters in French Literature from the Sorbonne . She then studied art, architecture and film, specializing in camera, at the École Louis-Lumière . With the help of the French director François Truffaut , she was able to publish her staged historical drama Die Strasse der Negerhütten in 1983 . For the film, which was produced for less than 1 million US dollars, she received the award of the French César film prize for best first work . With White Time of Drought , Palcy became the first black woman to direct a Hollywood film. For this film, Marlon Brando received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance at the Academy Awards .
