The Evangelical Lutheran student home is a boarding school in Windsbach in Central Franconia and home of the Windsbach boys' choir . The students usually attend the adjoining state Johann Sebastian Bach grammar school , the Laurentius Realschule in Neuendettelsau , the Markgraf Georg Friedrich Realschule in Heilsbronn or the elementary and middle school in Windsbach.
history
In 1837 the dean Heinrich Brandt founded the “general Protestant parish orphanage” in order to guarantee the offspring of the parish families a good education. In the parish orphanage with an attached Progymnasium , the pupils should be trained and the next generation of pastors should be brought in. The proportion of pastor's children was between two thirds and three quarters of a class.

During the Second World War the house was closed for a short time. After the choir founded in 1946 by Hans Thamm more and more boys came because of the quality of the choir of Windsbach . The boarding school , which was eventually renamed “Studienheim”, also changed its admission criteria. What counted now was the vocal and musical performance, no longer the origins of a parish family. The boarding school was renovated in the 1990s. The students now live from the fifth up to and including the ninth grade in double rooms, from the 10th grade in single rooms.
Buildings
The campus consists of several individual houses, all of which were completely renovated in the 1990s.
Main house
In the main building, the 10th to 12th grade students are accommodated in single rooms. The boarding school administration as well as the library and the prayer room are also located here.
Choir center
The choir center is the musical center of the area. It consists of two floors with rehearsal rooms, a choir office, instrument rooms and classrooms.
The old student home
This house, which was painted conspicuously in deep red, was the former student residence that used to house the upper school. Today the 4th grade students as well as the secondary and secondary schools are in double rooms.
Old choir house
This second house, painted in red, is the old choir house, which after the construction of the choir center has meanwhile been occupied by students from the lower grades of grammar school.
