Evangelical Church Malstatt
The Malstatt Evangelical Church is a Protestant parish church in the Malstatt district of Saarbrücken . It is a listed monument as a single monument.
history
The first church in Malstatt dates back to Romanesque times and was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War . In 1732 a rectangular hall was built. Around 1865, it was no longer usable as it was in disrepair. The church building was torn down in 1868 and replaced by a neo-Gothic hall church according to plans by the Trier architect Friedrich Seyffart (h) by 1870 . A sketch by Friedrich August Stüler is said to have served as a template for the plans . The Saarbrücken city master builder Hugo Dihm took over the construction management. The total construction costs amounted to around 31,500 thalers.
During the Second World War, the church was almost completely destroyed except for the tower in June 1942. Only in 1953/54 was it rebuilt in a modified form by the architect Rudolf Krüger . The hall became a hall church . They also added a transept, added a storey and changed the window openings.
From 1996 to 1998 the masonry and tower were extensively renovated.
architecture
The originally three-bay and three-aisled nave was replaced in the 1950s by a hall building to which a transept was added to the north. The originally pointed arched windows with two-lane tracery and passpoint stood on a surrounding cornice and are no longer preserved. Only the portal in the west tower has remained pointed arch and is powered by a figureless jambs framed. Buttresses and pilaster strips adorn the west tower with an articulated helmet on the two upper floors, while larger corner blocks emphasize the corners of the tower on the lower floor. A vestibule with a neo-Gothic vault has been preserved in the tower.
The choir with a three-sided end and a choir bay opened directly to the central nave. It was drawn in and set off in height from the nave. Today there is a five-sided, recessed choir with a flat ceiling, which is the height of the hall. After the reconstruction, the windows were made simple and rectangular. The nave was increased.
The flat-roofed hall is supported by concrete ribs that rest on octagonal columns and pilasters. On the western front side, the entrance area is covered by an organ gallery supported on two round columns.
Furnishing
The interior of the church is kept simple. The three windows in the chancel were created in 1953 by the Saarbrücken architect and glass painter György Lehoczky . He also created the two small windows in the entrance area under the organ gallery, which were created in 1954. The sculptor Hauss created the altar cross, the textile artist Kathrin Niemeyer the paraments on the altar and pulpit.
organ
The organ dates from 1954 and was made by master organ builder Lothar Hintz from Heusweiler . It has a mechanical game and register action . The disposition is:
