Eve de Clavering
Eve de Clavering (also Eve of Clavering ) († September 20, 1369 ) was an English noblewoman.
Eve was the only daughter of John FitzRobert , who later became John de Clavering, 2nd Baron de Clavering , and of his wife Hawise de Tibetot , a daughter of Robert de Tibetot . As the only child, she was the heir to her father's possessions. As a child she was married to the young Thomas Audley , eldest son of Nicholas Audley, 1st Baron Audley of Heleigh . Her husband died between July 8th and December 14th, 1307. As Wittum , she received from the Audley estates for lifelong use the estate of Audley and a third of Endon in Staffordshire . Her second marriage was before December 2, 1308, Sir Thomas de Ufford , a younger son of Robert of Ufford and his second wife Joan. She had several children with him. Thomas de Ufford died on June 24, 1314 at the Battle of Bannockburn . After the death of her second husband, she had a longstanding relationship with Sir James Audley of Stratton Audley . James Audley was a cousin of her first husband, Thomas Audley, so she was not allowed to marry James under the law of the time. Probably after the death of James Audley in 1334, she married Robert de Benhale, 1st Baron Benhale († around 1404), in third marriage before 1342 . Their first marriage was childless. She had several children with her second husband, Thomas de Ufford. From her relationship with James Audley, she had at least two sons:
- Sir Peter Audley († 1359)
- Sir James Audley († 1369)
Her third marriage to Robert de Benhale was childless. She was buried at Langley Abbey in Norfolk , where her three husbands were also buried.
