Evelio Rosero

Evelio José Rosero Diago (born March 20, 1958 in Bogotá ) is a Colombian writer and journalist.

Life

Rosero spent most of his childhood in the Andean city of Cali . As a teenager he returned to Bogotá. He studied communication and journalism at the Universidad Externado de Colombia . He published his first stories in El Tiempo and in the Sunday supplement of El Espectador. At the age of 21 he received his first literary prize, the Premio Nacional de Cuento Gobernación del Quindío . Three years later he received the Mexican Netzahualcóyotl Prize for a short story. He then traveled to Europe and lived temporarily in quasi-exile in Paris and Barcelona.

His first trilogy of novels appeared in the 1980s, and in 2003 his previous major work: Los soldados . Since then, a rain of awards has descended on him. In 2006 he was the first winner of the Spanish Premio Tusquets de Novela .

Works

Rosero is a versatile writer, he has written novels, short stories, children's books, poems, plays, essays and newspaper articles. His most important works are his novels. In it he is active as myths and confronts national tradition with the reality of violence. He does not shy away from the decomposition and demystification of the figure of the national hero Simón Bolívar ( La carroza de Bolívar , 2012). Playing with times and spaces is significant for his work. The novel “Gute Dienst” was published in German in 2012, in which the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church is exposed.
