Everton Giovanella

Everton Giovanella (born September 30, 1970 in Caxias do Sul ) is a former Brazilian soccer player .

The midfielder began his career at Lajeadense . In 1992 he moved to SC Internacional in the Series A . In 1993 he went to Europe, where he played for the Portuguese clubs Estoril , Tirsense and Belenenses Lisbon . In 1996 he moved to the Spanish second division UD Salamanca , with whom he rose to the Primera División in the first season . In 1998 the class could be held, but the next year Salamanca was knocked off last and Giovanella went to Celta Vigo .

With Vigo he achieved after victories against u. a. Benfica Lisbon and Juventus Turin made the quarter-finals of the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup , losing to RC Lens . In 2000, Vigo won the UEFA Intertoto Cup , which meant the club qualified for the UEFA Cup again. There you could u. a. Shakhtar Donetsk and VfB Stuttgart beat and were eliminated in the quarterfinals only because of the away goals rule against FC Barcelona . Vigo also reached the final of the 2000/01 Copa del Rey , which Real Zaragoza won. The club took part in the UEFA Cup for the next two years, but did not get past the third round. In 2003 Vigo reached fourth place in the Spanish championship and thus took part in qualifying for the Champions League for the first time . This was survived and after victories against AC Milan and Ajax Amsterdam and second place in the group phase, they were eliminated in the round of 16 against Arsenal .

In December 2004 Giovanella was tested positive for nandrolone in a doping control and was then banned for two years. In 2007/08 he played one more season at third division club FC Coruxo and then ended his career.
