Evlyn Howard-Jones

Evlyn Howard-Jones (* 1877 in London - † January 4, 1951 ) was an English pianist, conductor and music teacher.

Howard-Jones studied at the Royal College of Music and was then a student of Eugen d'Albert . He made his debut in 1908 in a concert of the Royal Philharmonic Society in London under the direction of Henry Wood with Brahms' Second Piano Concerto and made a name for himself as an important Brahms interpreter in the following years. He also played works by contemporary composers such as Frederick Delius , who dedicated several compositions to him, and John Ireland .

Howard-Jones was also active as a conductor, in 1906 as the first conductor of the New Symphony Orchestra . In 1923 he founded the Federation of Music Clubs , which made a contribution to the spread of chamber music, and with his wife, violinist Grace Thynne , the Chelsea Children's Chamber Music Club . As a sought-after piano teacher, he ran his own piano school in London.
