Evrim is a Turkish female and male given name .

meaning

Evrim is a Turkish name. Translated it means "evolution". In Turkish, "Evrim" means, among other things, a constant change (Değişim) or development (İlerleme). The Turkish name "Devrim" on the other hand means "revolution". Both names are often given to siblings.

origin

The word "Evrim" is one of those old Turkish words that found their way into the Turkish language with the introduction of the Latin script and Ataturk's language reform. The origin goes back to the emergence of the Turkish Republic in 1923, when linguists began to replace foreign words with partly existing, new Turkish words. During this time of the westernization of Turkey, the influence of the Persian or Arabic language was avoided in order to distance oneself from the Islamic influence ( Ataturk's orientation towards the West ). For this context, the word from Oghuz , from the original meaning "change" in Turkish using the meaning "evolution", was retained.
