Ewald Langer

Ewald Langer (born November 15, 1960 in Böblingen ) is a German biologist and university professor. His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Langer ".

The son of a natural history teacher attended elementary school from 1968 to 1972 and then the Stiftsgymnasium in Sindelfingen . After graduating from high school in 1982, he studied biology at the University of Tübingen , where he received his doctorate with Franz Oberwinkler with the dissertation "The genus Hyphodontia John Eriksson". During this work he came into contact with Helga Große-Brauckmann and the Scandinavian mycologists Kurt Hjortstam, Leif Ryvarden, Nils Hallenberg as well as Ellen and Karl-Henrik Larsson and was able to deepen his knowledge of the fungus group of the Corticiaceen , whose species are very difficult to determine.

After receiving his doctorate, he and his wife set up a molecular biology laboratory as a research assistant in Tübingen, where he worked in his main areas of work, DNA sequencing and natural product research.

After completing his habilitation, he was offered a professorship in ecology at the University of Kassel in 2002 with a focus on phylogeny , biodiversity and the ecology of non-leaf mushrooms.

Langer was President of the German Society for Mycology (DGfM) .
