history

The company was founded by Alfons Ewals in 1906. Over 100 years later it had grown into one of the leading European logistics service providers.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Ewals expanded to Germany. With the growth of the steel and chemical industries during the post-war reconstruction, transport services to and from Germany exceeded expectations in those years. In 1974 the company started providing transport services to the UK . Cargoes for customers such as Vauxhall , Ford and KNP formed the basis of a new, rapidly growing service.

Today's Ewals Cargo Care GmbH was founded in Kiefersfelden in 1980. Due to its direct border with Austria, Kiefersfelden is an important hub in north-south traffic. On December 31, 2019, Ewals Cargo Care GmbH in Kiefersfelden was closed. In 1984 unaccompanied ro-ro services were introduced between the UK and the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The service has been renamed Cargo Care.

In 1990 Cargo Care introduced the megatrailer in collaboration with the automotive industry. Cargo Care started mega-trailer services between the UK and Sweden two years later. An integrated collaboration with existing Ewals services from the continent was formed.

In 1994 Ewals Transport and Cargo Care merged into one company. Ewals' expertise in continental road transport, cargo management and storage has been combined with Cargo Care's extensive ro-ro services between the UK, the continent and Scandinavia. The company has developed a European network of logistics services since 1994 and is the largest operator of mega-trailers in Europe. It has the capacity to carry out liner transports in the full load sector for many large European manufacturers, especially in the automotive sector.

By the year 2000, the company's fleet had grown to 3,000 trailers since the mega-trailer was introduced in 1990. The mega piggyback trailer was introduced in 2007 as an intermodal unit that could be used on road, rail or short sea. In June 2007 the forwarding activities of the Swiss Crossrail AG were sold to the company Ewals Cargo Care in order to concentrate only on block train traffic.

The company won the Lean & Green award in 2011 for its commitment to reducing CO 2 emissions by 20% within five years. In June 2011 it was awarded a Dun & Bradstreet Rating 1 (highest creditworthiness with minimal risk of default). In April 2013 this certificate was renewed. For the development of the TES (Tactical Engineering Solution), the company received the Entrepreneur Award 2013 from TLN for excellent performance in communication and information technology . In May 2013 it presented the Mega Huckepack XLS as a trailer, which was developed and patented in cooperation with a customer.
