from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Exe Valley Railway was a British railway company based in Devon , England .

On June 30, 1874, the company was founded to build a railway line from Tiverton to Thorverton along the Exe . From Thorverton a connection to the route of the Bristol and Exeter Railway (B&ER) in Stoke Canon was planned. In 1875, B&ER received the right to take over the company. However, this was not realized until the following year by Great Western Railway , which had since acquired B&ER. The GWR opened the standard-gauge 12-kilometer route on May 1, 1885.
