Neurolysis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As neurolysis (from Greek  νεῦρονλύω = "nerve solve") is an operation referred to, the narrowings of a nerve (usually scar adhesions), and thus the pressure exerted eliminated. Nerves are relatively stable against tensile forces, but react very sensitively to external pressure (e.g. with pain, numbness or paralysis).

There are two types of neurolysis:

  • External neurolysis or exoneurolysis , the surgical removal of adhesions around a nerve.
  • Internal neurolysis or endoneurolysis or interfascicular neurolysis , the dissection of individual nerve fiber bundles of a peripheral nerve.

There is also neurosurgical neurolysis, which is a neuroablative procedure aimed at combating pain.
