Expo (magazine)
Expo is a Swedish anti-racist magazine published by the non-profit Expo Foundation (Stiftelsen Expo) since 1995. The magazine appears four times a year and contains detailed reports on nationalist , racist , anti-democratic , anti-Semitic and right-wing extremist movements and organizations. Expo has no affiliations with specific organizations or political parties, but works with individuals and organizations who share the fundamentals. The chairman of the foundation and the magazine is Pro-Erik Nilsson, former chief parliamentary ombudsman (1978–1987). The foundation and magazine are members of the Antifa-Net . International Antifascist Network for Research and Action .
organization
The organization has different departments. Expo Arkiv is an archive about right-wing and anti-democratic cases in Scandinavia. The archive is open to researchers, students and individuals. Expo Research is a research organization that compiles information on racist, anti-Semitic and anti-democratic organizations in Sweden and Europe. The information comes from the reporters, former members of right-wing groups, public publications, government agencies, independent researchers and others. Expo works closely with Monitor in Norway and Searchlight Magazine in the UK. Expo also exchanges information with groups and magazines such as the Antifascist Info Sheet in Germany, Reflexes and CRIDA in France, Tun Balalaika in Russia, Nigdy Wiecej in Poland as well as the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights (IREHR) and the Center for New Community ( CNC) in the USA.
history
Expo became widely known in Sweden in June 1996. Attacks and threats on and to the companies that print and sell the magazine and support the organizations followed. For example, the words “Inget stöd till communist-Expo” (“no support for the communist expo”) were written on the wall of the Moderata samlingspartiet headquarters . In response, the leading daily newspapers Aftonbladet and Expressen printed the issue in June 1996 and distributed it as a free supplement with a circulation of approx. 800,000 copies. In 1998 the tense financial situation led to the magazine's printing ban. It has been replaced by a newsletter. In 1999 the magazine appeared again, now as part of Svartvitt magazine. Since Svartvitt was discontinued in 2003, Expo has been published again as an independent magazine.
Until his death in 2004, the magazine's editor was Stieg Larsson , who achieved world fame posthumously through his crime novels (" Millennium Trilogy ").
