information Western genre mix

Express Raider is an arcade game produced by Data East in 1986 . It's a genre mix of beat 'em up and shoot' em up in a western style.

Game description

The player takes on the character of the mail robber Express Raider and has to steal bags of money from a moving train.

Beat 'em up

The first part of the game is a sidescrolling beat 'em up on the train. The player has to fight his way through from the side scroller perspective and put opponents in each train compartment out of action by punching or kicking. If the opponents are throwing bottles or coals, the player better ducks. There are also tall signs where the player also has to duck his head. When you have reached the locomotive within a certain time, the pawn will hold two sacks of gold in his hands. Then you have to fight a few coyotes on the ground.

Shoot 'em up

Here the player rides a horse from the side scroller perspective. Opponents appear in the windows of the train and must be hit by shooting or throwing objects. Women should be spared. When you have survived this round, you continue on the train with an increased degree of difficulty.

This and that

Outside the US, the game is also known under the game title " Western Express ".
