Extra sheet (press)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Extra sheet of the Cöpenick steam boat from the evening of October 16, 1906 with a representation of the " Köpenickiade "

An extra sheet is a special edition of a (daily) newspaper about a special, current event. Typically these editions are of a smaller size than the regular ones and are sold by criminals in public places. However, the term extra sheet can also refer to a free newspaper.

The electronic media have made this form of news dissemination much less important. However, it is still used occasionally, for example in the year Erich Honecker resigned in 1989 or in Japan when an heir to the throne was born in 2006.
