Ferchland – Grieben ferry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ferchland – Grieben ferry, which was operated until June 2020, started operating in 1998 to re-establish the connection between Ferchland and Grieben and thus also the districts of Jerichower Land and Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt via the Elbe after an interruption of almost fifty years . The ferry connected the 1196 district road, which crosses the Elbe here.

history

The ferry traffic at this point was first mentioned in a document in 1722. At that time she was a so-called Schrickfähre because the boat geschrickt with human power, that is, Punting on the River Elbe was moved. Around 1890 a yaw ferry was used , but it blocked the fairway with its rope and was therefore abolished again.

The introduction of a motor ferry in 1925 made work much easier until it was sunk in 1945 as a result of war events. From 1946 the ferry service could be resumed at least for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists with a boat with an auxiliary engine, but was given up again in 1955.

On April 4, 1998, the new ferry was put into operation, which until June 2020 offered the transport of up to 8 cars as well as additional two-wheelers and people across the Elbe with a travel time of 4 minutes and a travel cycle of 13 minutes.
