Fährwall 2 (Stralsund)
The house with the postal address Fährwall 2 is a listed building in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund on Fährwall .
The three-storey house with a hipped roof is a former part of the Stralsund city wall and is of medieval origin. It was initially used as a storage facility. In the course of time, the building was reshaped several times. The segment-arched hatches on the second floor have been preserved from their original condition .
Originally made of brick , the facade was later plastered.
Until the renovation in 2012 it was assumed that the house was built in the 14th century; Building history studies in the course of the renovation suggest that it was built after 1230.
The building was built as a warehouse and was later used as a warehouse; The retail organization (HO) was one of the users . In 1995 the ownership changed from the trust company managing the assets of the HO to a private investor; the house then fell into disrepair and was foreclosed in 2005 . It was only after another change of ownership in 2011 that the building, which had fallen into disrepair, was extensively renovated; it has been used as a residential building ever since.
The house is located in the core area of the city area recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage site of the “ historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar ”. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with the number 183.
