The Faroese Men's Volleyball Championship has been held in the Faroe Islands since 1969. The first championship was played in the 1st deild ( German 1st league ), in 1980 the 2nd deild followed as a substructure , and from 1982 to 1996 the 3rd deild also existed . In 1986 the first league was renamed Meistaradeildin (German: Master League ), from 2009 to 2016 the league was named Eik-ligan due to the sponsorship of Eik Banki . In the course of the first renaming, the 2nd deild became the 1st deild . In addition to the championship, a trophy has also been played since 2000 .
Current mode
In 2019/20, four teams compete against each other on 18 match days from November 2019 to March 2020, so that each team plays six times against each other. There are three points for a 3-0 or 3-1 win, two points for a 3-2 win and one point for a 3-2 defeat. The two teams with the highest points play two finals at the end, the winner is the champion. Below the first division there is the 1st deild , which in 2019/20 consisted of one A and three B teams.
