The Faroese Women's Volleyball Championship has been held in the Faroe Islands since 1969. The first championship was played in the 1st deild ( German 1st league ), in 1980 the 2nd deild followed as a substructure , and from 1982 to 1996 the 3rd deild also existed . In 1986 the first league was renamed Meistaradeildin (German: Master League ), from 2009 to 2016 the league was named Eik-ligan due to the sponsorship of Eik Banki . In the course of the first renaming, the 2nd deild became the 1st deild . In addition to the championship, a trophy has also been played since 2000 .
Current mode
In 2019/20, six teams compete against each other on 15 match days from November 2019 to March 2020, so that each team plays each other three times. There are three points for a 3-0 or 3-1 win, two points for a 3-2 win and one point for a 3-2 defeat. The two teams with the highest points play two finals at the end, the winner is the champion. Below the first division there is the 1st deild , which in 2019/20 consisted of one A, five B and two C teams.
