The Mitten , even Edler Kogel called, is a 1,919-meter-high elevation in the Dead Mountains . It belongs to the Hetzaukamm, the most lonely part of the Dead Mountains. The name arises from its characteristic peak shape, which is reminiscent of a closed hand with an outstretched thumb.

Climbs

There is no marked path to the mitten and therefore it is rarely climbed. The path is marked in places with stone almonds, and there are old climbing aids and ropes. At the highest point there is a small summit cross , erected by mountain colleagues in memory of a fatally injured mountaineer, and a summit book from the 1990s.

We recommend starting a tour at the Almtalerhaus along the southeast side of the Karlgraben or at the Almsee with an ascent over the Schneiderberg (1324 m).
