Anton Gill

Anton Gill (* 1948 in Ilford , Essex ; now London ) is a British author . He lives in London and Paris . For the books, which are based on the video game Assassin's Creed , he appears under the pseudonym Oliver Bowden.

Life

Anton Gill grew up in London as the son of a German father and a British mother. His parents both died in 1995. His mother was a teacher of English, Russian and theater, and his father was an engineer. He spent his early childhood in Bamberg .

Between the ages of 12 and 18, he attended Chigwell School in Epping Forest District . This is where the foundation for his passion for theater was laid. At the age of 19 he went to the University of Cambridge and deepened his knowledge in the arts of theater. He studied English literature with German and French as minor subjects. In 1970, Gill graduated from the university in addition to his undergraduate degrees as President of the Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club .

From 1970 to 1976 he worked as assistant to the director at the Royal Court Theater in London and wrote various plays. During this time he worked with the theater directors Lindsay Anderson and Anthony Page as well as the writers Samuel Beckett and Athol Fugard .

From 1976 to 1978 he was theater director at the Arts Concil of Great Britain. During this time he also wrote various radio reports for the BBC . During this time he wrote his first biography about Alexander Pope "The Spider's Touch".

In 1981 and 1982 he worked for the Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Hamburg . In 1982 he met his first wife Nicola Browne in Egypt. The marriage remained childless and ended in 1998. Until 1984 he worked as a freelance writer and journalist for various radio and television companies.

In May 1984 he devoted himself entirely to writing. He dealt extensively with contemporary European history. This resulted in his first work, which takes place in ancient Egypt: "Martin Allen is Missing", and he worked on a series of thrillers. What he loves most about his work is the conversation with his contemporaries and he gets inspiration for his books. In the following years, Anton Gill traveled a lot around the world and was inspired by different cultures. During this time, various books were created, all of which were shaped by his travels.

In 2005 Anton Gill married his second wife, the actress Marji Campi. Since then he has been spending more and more time in France . He has been fascinated by the country since his first visit in 1967. Since then he has occasionally been writing for SKI MAGAZIN, Woman magazine and Country Living. Anton Gill is a member of Greenpeace .

Anton Gill mainly writes non-fiction books, such as the 2010 book about the Titanic "Titanic: The Real Story of The Construction of The World's Most Famous Ship". He also published the successful novels for the video game Assassin's Creed under the pseudonym Oliver Bowden .

In 1988 he received the Harold Hyam Wingate Award in the non-fiction category for his study on survivors of the Nazi concentration camp "The Journey Back From Hell"
