Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film

The Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film ( FIAF ) is the association of the most important film archives in the world. It was founded in Paris in 1938 . The aim is to restore and collect films in terms of their significance as cultural assets and historical documents.

The FIAF publishes the Journal of Film Preservation , which appears twice a year, as well as the International Index to Film Periodicals and the FIAF International FilmArchive Database . Every year a conference is held in another country on technical and legal aspects of film archiving.

As of 2019, the FIFG had 90 members and 74 associated film archives from 75 countries. Its members also include several German film archives that are combined in the German Kinematheksverbund . In Austria, the Filmarchiv Austria and the Austrian Film Museum are members of the FIAF. Swiss members are the Cinémathèque Suisse in Lausanne and the Lichtspiel / Kinemathek in Bern .
