history

The association emerged from the employers' association “Groupe patronal interprofessionnel”, which was founded in 1928. In 1931 the “Groupe patronal interprofessionnel” joined forces with the trade union federation “Fédération des syndicats chrétiens de Genève” in order to implement the goal of a joint corporation . In 1932 this association was renamed the “Fédération des Syndicats Patronaux” (FSP). This initially consisted of two professional associations with 40 members. She soon coordinated various professional associations and formed the Geneva Association with the Christian trade unions. The association managed several social institutions and created investment funds that were used to secure unemployment insurance and family allowances. Recruitment offices, unemployment funds, health insurances and family allowance funds were established. However, all of these efforts were not enough to ensure social peace. In 1946 the previous employers 'association dissolved and the employers' organization, together with six other French-speaking associations, formed the umbrella organization of the “Fédération romande des syndicats patronaux” (FRSP) in 1948. The two main areas of responsibility are the administration of social institutions and the safeguarding of the economic interests of the individual professional associations, for example by providing support in negotiating collective agreements with the industrial unions.

In 2003 the name of the organization was changed to "Fédération des Entreprises Romandes Genève". Today it forms an important umbrella organization for professional associations in the canton of Geneva. The association has 28,000 members, 70% of which are small businesses with one to five employees and employ a total of over 130,000 people. It also has around 9,000 independent and freelance entrepreneurs and 80 professional or business associations.
