Leadership Base Area

A basic management area is used to structure skills within a management organization . The term is mainly used in the military , but also in the fire brigade , disaster and civil protection ( technical relief organization ).

Departments of a military staff are usually structured according to basic leadership areas.

Germany

In the Bundeswehr , the departments of the staff are structured according to the basic command areas. Classic leadership areas are:

  • Human Resources, Internal Management, Press (FGG 1),
  • Military intelligence (FGG 2),
  • Leadership, organization, training (FGG 3),
  • Logistics (FGG 4),
  • Guide service (FGG 6)

Other departments / subject areas (e.g. medical service, administration) can be added.

Switzerland

The Swiss Armed Forces are also structured according to basic command areas (FGG)

  • FGG 3 operations
  • FGG 4 logistics
  • FGG 5 planning
  • FGG 6 leadership support
  • FGG 7 training
  • FGG 8 Finances
  • FGG 9 International

In NATO one differentiates

  • Manpower or Personnel (1) - troop strength and personnel
  • Intelligence / security / information operations (2) - Military intelligence / security / information operations
  • Operations (3) - leadership and engagement
  • Logistics (4) - logistics
  • Plans & Strategy (5) - planning and strategy
  • Signal (Communications and IT) (6) - Communication and Information Technology
  • Training (7) - training
  • Finance (8) - Budget and Finance
  • CIMIC (9) - civil-military cooperation
