Daisy from Pless

The noblewoman Daisy, who was born in England, is considered a benefactress in Pless, who has cared for the German as well as the Polish inhabitants of Pless all her life and thus contributed to the reconciliation of the two peoples. She is one of the most important people in the history of Pless.

During the First World War , as a Red Cross nurse , she looked after the wounded soldiers on hospital trains in France and experienced the end of the war in an Austrian hospital in Serbia . During the Second World War she lived in Waldenburg and supplied the prisoners of the Groß-Rosen concentration camp with food parcels. She spent a significant part of her life in Pless.

Every year in May, “Daisy Days” are organized in her honor on the Pless market square.
