The construction project was completed in 1874 and employed several hundred people. In its first decades, the company was primarily active in Wesel and the Lower Rhine and, among other things, took over the construction of the current building of the Wesel District Court in 1912 . Under the direction of Ernst Trapp , the company became internationally active and from 1927 built several high mountain roads in Afghanistan . In the 1930s the company was involved in the construction of highways.

After the end of the Second World War, the company was involved in the reconstruction in Wesel and from 1952 expanded its global activities again. At times, up to 2,000 people were employed at FC Trapp. The company's domestic activities were sold to a Dutch group of companies in 1999 and discontinued in 2011, while the company's international business was continued by the founder's family. It exists as Trapp Construction International GmbH and includes two other partner companies. The company's headquarters are in Wesel on the Great Market in the so-called “Trapp -zeile”.
