B2 (Paralympics)

B2 is a functional classification for athletes that indicates the degree of disability relevant to competition in Paralympic sports . Athletes classified according to B2 must meet the following conditions:

"Little visual remainder: From the ability to perceive a hand movement to a visual remainder of 2/60 and / or a visual field restriction of less than 5 ° (all classifications are based on the better eye and with the best possible correction)."

Derived starting classes

Only Paralympic athletes classified according to B2 are eligible to start in the following starting classes of Paralympic sports :

  • Athletics (starting classes T12 / F12 )
  • Swimming (start classes S12 / SB12 / SM12 )

Important aids and conditions for athletes classified according to B2 in the respective sports:

  • Nordic skiing (starting class B2) & Alpine skiing (starting class B2) / biathlon (starting class B2): guides drive ahead or behind, lead by shouting or radio
  • Athletics (starting classes T12 / F12): all athletes can use guides in the running competitions who run alongside, coupled to their arms; There are specific aids in the jumping and pushing competitions
  • Swimming (start classes S12 / SB12 / SM12): Athletes can ask for a lifting aid at the end of the pool
