The FC Aufbau Sternberg is a football club in the small town of Sternberg in western Mecklenburg . He maintains two men's teams, six junior teams and one senior team. The association has around 200 members (as of 2009).

history

The FC Aufbau is a successor to the company sports community Aufbau Sternberg, which existed from the 1950s to 1990. After the Second World War, all previous sports clubs were banned in their area at the instigation of the Soviet occupying forces. Loosely organized sports associations (SG) were initially admitted. One such was created in 1948 in Sternberg with the football and water sports divisions. After the introduction of the company sports associations (BSG) in the Eastern Zone and later in the GDR, the SG in Sternberg was converted into BSG Aufbau in 1952.

While the sailors made a name for themselves throughout the GDR (3rd place in the GDR championship of the 420 dinghies by Volker Schön), the football section of the BSG Aufbau did not get beyond the district league level . Her greatest success was winning the soccer district cup in 1973 and the associated qualification for the GDR-wide soccer cup competition 1973/74 . There, however, the BSG Aufbau did not get beyond the first round, the home game against the TSG Wismar second division team was clearly lost 4-0.

When the BSG Aufbau had to be dissolved after the loss of the economic fundamentals as a result of German reunification, its previous sections founded their own associations. In 1991, the FC Aufbau Sternberg, which took over the existing soccer teams of the BSG, was established. The first men's team played temporarily in the national class, from 2009 eighth division after the dissolution of the district league.

Sports facility

FC Aufbau uses the municipal “Stadion Am See” in the northeast of the city. The complex is equipped with a grass field with a modern athletics facility and an adjacent field with artificial turf. A grandstand with seating for 250 and standing room for 2,200 is available for the spectators. The stadium was built in the 1950s and extensively renovated in 2001.
