Hans Triebel (born February 7, 1936 in Dessau ) is a German mathematician who deals with function spaces ( functional analysis , harmonic analysis ) and differential equations in mathematical physics .

Live and act

Triebel studied mathematics from 1954 at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , where he was temporarily assistant to Walter Brödel . After obtaining his diploma in 1959, he worked for Carl Zeiss . He received his doctorate in 1962 with the thesis “On the Lamé differential equation” under Wilhelm Maier and completed his habilitation in 1966 with the thesis “On the theory of quasilinear elliptical differential equations and differential equation systems”.

Since 1970 he has been a professor of analysis in Jena. Jens Franke is one of his doctoral students . From 1990 to 1993 Triebel helped as dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Jena in the rebuilding of the university after the fall of the Wall . From 1993 to 2002 he was speaker of the DFG - Research Training # 205. Analytical and stochastic structures and systems .

Hans Triebel was a member of the GDR Academy of Sciences and has been a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences since 1993 .
