The FC Schwelm 06 (officially: Fußballclub Schwelm 06 eV ) was a sports club from Schwelm in the Ennepe-Ruhr district . The first soccer team played a year in the highest Westphalian amateur league.
history
The club was founded on March 21, 1906, when the street soccer teams Germania and Westfalia merged and founded a club. In 1930 the Schwelmern succeeded in being promoted to the then first-class Berg / Mark district league . After two fifth and one sixth place, the team missed the qualification for the newly created Gauligen in 1933 . The low point of the 1932/33 season was a 1:14 defeat at Fortuna Düsseldorf . The Schwelmer twice reached the promotion round to Gauliga Westfalen . They failed in 1933 at Westfalia Herne and Union Recklinghausen and five years later at Arminia Bielefeld .
The first years after the Second World War were turbulent. Initially, the club played for a year in Westphalia and in 1946 moved to the Niederrhein Football Association . There the team promptly relegated to the district class and returned in 1951 before the club moved back to Westphalia in 1952. Right off the bat, the team was promoted to the state league , the highest amateur league at the time. As the table penultimate of the 1953/54 season , it went back to the district class. In 1956, the rise again succeeded, with the state league after the simultaneous introduction of the Association League Westphalia was only the second highest amateur league. With one point behind the ball friends Ardey , the relegation was missed in the second attempt.
For the Schwelmer runner-up championships followed behind Westfalia Hagen in 1958 and SV Boele-Kabel a year later. In the meantime, the Schwelmer slipped into the 1st district class or district league A Hagen, before the club was able to establish itself in the district league from 1978. After a runner-up behind VfL Winz-Baak in 1980, three years later they were promoted again to the national league, where the team immediately became runner-up behind SC Hassel in the 1983/84 promotion season .
Successor clubs
In 1986 the FC Schwelm 06 merged with the SC Grün-Weiß Schwelm to form SG 06/95 Schwelm. This was able to stay in the regional league and was runner-up behind the SG Werne in 1992 . In 1994, SG Schwelm merged with Sportfreunde Schwelm to form VfB Schwelm. This stayed in the national league until 2000 and returned to this again for the 2006/07 season. In 2011, VfB was again runner-up in the district league behind SC Hennen , before the Schwelmer had to relegate to the district league A in 2013. Five years later, he was promoted to the district league again.
