Étoile Mulhouse is a French football club from the Alsatian city of Mulhouse ( Mulhouse in French ) in the Haut-Rhin department .
history
Étoile Mulhouse was founded in 1922 in the Dornach district of Mülhausen by railway workers. The club played in the period before the Second World War only under-class.
During the German occupation of France in World War II from 1940 to 1944, the football clubs from Alsace-Lorraine took part in the games of the German Reich . Étoile Mulhouse joined this time by its German name FC Star Mulhouse and managed in 1941 to rise in the Gauliga Alsace . A tenth place at the end of the 1941/42 season led to relegation to the district class. Since 1945, the club played again as Étoile Mulhouse in the Alsatian league system .
Since 1945, the club has been playing again as Étoile Mulhouse in the French league system . In the 1946/47 season the club belonged to the then highest French regional class, the Alsatian honor division ( Division d'Honneur Alsace ), but since then has only played in lower-class leagues at department level. From 1962 to 2014 the club was called SREG Mulhouse ( Sport Réunis Electricité Gaz Mulhouse ).
In the 2019/20 season, which was canceled prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic , Étoile Mulhouse played in the Alsatian league District 3 , which belongs to the eleventh French league level.
