FFFIS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FFFIS refers to a Form Fit Function Interface Specification (instead of just Functional ) in the Anglo-Saxon language area . FFF is a classification of interchangeable parts that originally came from maintenance , which are identical in shape, fit and function and are therefore interchangeable with one another. An FFFIS is therefore a clear description of an interface between devices or modules.

In contrast to an FIS (Functional Interface Specification), FFFIS not only describes the functional requirements for an interface, but also its complete, specific design. An FFFIS has the requirement that all devices with an interface developed according to it are interchangeable.

use

Such precise interface definitions often serve to break the spare parts monopoly of individual manufacturers. This has long been the norm in military procurement ( NSN ). Economic efficiency is also the main motive for the Europe-wide introduction of the train control system ERTMS / ETCS , in which FFFIS interfaces are defined for several components.
