The FSS-100 Tourist was a two-seat sport aircraft . It was the only one of its kind designed and built in the GDR .

history

The FSS-100 was created from 1958 to 1962 using construction plans from the French Piel CP-30 Emeraude at the Brandenburg aviation school Schönhagen (hence the abbreviation FSS). A Czechoslovak Walter Mikron III engine was used as the drive . Since there were gaps in the construction plans used, improvisation had to be made, particularly with regard to the engine suspension, the pulpit and the external design. The wing in low wing configuration was elliptical and had a NACA-23012 profile. The landing gear was taken over from a disused Zlín Z-126 , the rigid wooden propeller with a diameter of 1.57 m was given as a gift from Czechoslovak aviation enthusiasts.

The first flight took place on October 9, 1962 by Fritz Fliegauf, who completed a total of 50 take-offs with the tourist in 19 flight hours. The aircraft had satisfactory flight characteristics, but the engine was experiencing difficulties due to poorly functioning fuel tank ventilation. The FSS-100 was flown in Schönhagen for some time, but used less and less over time. A major overhaul took place in the Lommatzsch glider factory with additional reinforcement of the cabin struts, but in 1978 it was officially deleted from the register. According to the order, the FSS-100 should be dismantled, but this could be prevented by committed employees. Today the aircraft is owned by the "Otto Lilienthal" aviation club and is stored in the former aviation museum at Finsterwalde airfield .
