The class D.445 is a diesel locomotive series of the Italian state railways Ferrovie dello Stato (FS). Between 1974 and 1988 a total of 150 machines were built in three series.

Today the vehicles are mainly used in front of passenger trains on the Italian mainland and on the island of Sardinia .

Construction series

First series

The first series of series D.445 comprises 35 vehicles, numbered from 1001 to 1035. In contrast to the other two series, the locomotives still had curved window panes and no push-pull control .

Second series

The second series includes 20 vehicles with the road numbers 1036 to 1055. In contrast to the first series, the second series has push-pull train control and no curved window panes.

Third series

Copy of the third series

The third is the largest series of FS D.445 with a total of 95 vehicles. The vehicles were given the road numbers 1056 to 1150 and, like the second series, have push-pull train controls and flat front windows. In addition, the third series has five headlights on each driver's cab instead of the three usual for the other two series .
