FT Cottbus 93 (officially: Freie Turnerschaft Cottbus 1893 ) was a sports club from Cottbus . The soccer team became German runner-up in the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association (ATSB) in 1932 .
history
The association was founded in 1893. The soccer department was created 20 years later. In 1923 the Cottbussers won the district championship for the first time and were able to repeat this success in 1924 and 1927. In 1928, the Free Gymnastics Association first reached the final of the district championship, which would have meant qualification for the German championship. In front of 3,000 spectators in the neutral Weißwasser, however, the Cottbussers lost 3: 8 to TuS Süd Forst . After further district championships in 1929 and 1931, the greatest success in the club's history was achieved in 1932.
As the winners of the round, the Cottbussers qualified for the German ATSB championship in 1932 . After a 5: 2 over FFV Ponarth from Königsberg and a 4: 3 over Eintracht Reinickendorf-West , the Free Gymnastics Federation reached the semi-finals. There the team prevailed 4-3 against VfK Leipzig-Südwest in front of 5,000 spectators in the Cottbus municipal stadium . The opponent in the final was TSV Nürnberg-Ost , who used their home advantage in front of 7,420 spectators in the Nuremberg municipal stadium and clearly won 4-1. A year later, the Cottbus again secured the district championship before the club after the seizure of power of the Nazis was banned and dissolved.
