FVB mice

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The abbreviation FVB denotes a strain of mice often used in research.

This was obtained in 1935 from a Swiss mouse colony. While he was bred to a pure-bred strain through numerous inbred crosses, a weakness against the leukemia- causing Friend Virus B, a type of murine leukemia virus, was discovered . Since the main purpose of the strain at the time was to isolate the Fv1b allele, it was named accordingly.

FVB mice have white fur and are particularly often used in experiments in which the test animals are transgenicized .
