The FV Germersheim (full name Germersheim football club 1911 e. V. ) is a football club from the Palatinate Germersheim .

history

On June 11, 1911, the club was founded as the Germersheim football club . Just six months later (1912) the name was changed to Germersheimer Fußballverein . In the early years, the venues changed frequently: First the Germersheimers played on a former parade ground, then on a former firing range or on the parade ground “on Hertling”. From 1923 to 1927 the "Tuchbleiche" on the Rhine was the venue. From 1927 this was the sports field on Josef-Probst-Straße and remained so for several decades. The GFV inaugurated its clubhouse there in 1963.

In 1928 the GFV merged with the Germersheim gymnastics club , which was also renamed the Germersheim gymnastics and sports club . The merger only existed until 1929. Before the war, the promotion to the district league Vorderpfalz in 1928 was a sporting success. The district league was the second highest achievable league at that time. However, the direct relegation followed. In 1945 the club was dissolved and re-established as the Germersheim sports club in the spring of the next year. Since 1951 the club has been called Germersheimer FV again .

Wrede sports center

At the beginning of the 1960s, FV Germersheim's most successful period in sport began: on the 50th anniversary (1961), the (re) promotion to the A-Class could also be celebrated. In 1966 the GFV rose to the 2nd amateur league Vorderpfalz as A-class champion. Also in 1966, the club won the Vorderpfalz district cup (6-0 in the final against FV Dudenhofen ). In the second amateur league, the club reached second place in the table in the first season. In 1968 the GFV became champions with ten points and was able to celebrate the greatest success in the club's history with the associated promotion to the 1st Amateur League Southwest (at that time the third highest division). After six years, the GFV was relegated to the Vorderpfalz district league. In 1976 there was relegation from this league, further relegations led to the B-Class. After a rebuilding, the A-class was reached again, the club remained in this division for some time.

GFV has been playing in the Rheinstadion in the Wrede sports center since 1972. For ten years there was a commute between the clubhouse in Josef-Probst-Straße and the lawn in “Wrede”. In 1982 a new club house was built at the venue.

In the 2011/12 season the GFV competed in the 1st district class Südpfalz Mitte. In 2013, the GFV under the coach Dumitru Balea managed to move up to the district league (B-Class Ost Südpfalz; balance: 30 games, 29 wins and 1 defeat, 144: 29 goals, 87 points). In the 2013/14 season they managed to stay under Balea, which the coaching team Adrian Pfeifer and Steffen Bassek could repeat in the following season. After a year-long stint in Hambach, Dumitru Balea returned as a trainer in 2015. In the 2015/16 season, GFV narrowly missed promotion to the A-Class. After the autumn championship and a weaker second half of the season, the team landed on a surprising 4th place in the table. After the 2016/17 season (10th place in the table) Dumitru Balea left the club. As his successor, player-coach Steffen Bassek returned to GFV, who was supported by Adrian Pfeifer and Dominik Pahler. At the end of 2018, Bassek stopped working as a coach. Murat Ok, previously at TSV Lingenfeld and Türkgücü Germersheim, has been GFV's trainer since January 1, 2019 . Adrian Pfeifer replaced Karl-Heinz Kempf as chairman of the association in April 2018.

The Germersheimer FV 1911 eV is known for its youth and integration work and has already received several awards for it.
