The Soccer Association 1903 Mainz-Mombach eV is a soccer club from the Mainz district of Mombach . It was founded in 1903, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Rheinhessen .

history

The club was founded in 1903 under the name FC Mombach 03 and soon joined the Association of South German Football Associations . Josef Schier, Peter Lahr and Nikolaus Balmert moved some citizens of Mombach to the founding meeting. The “Zur Krone” inn was selected as the first club restaurant. Training and games took place on the open area above the Mombach waterworks. Seven years later, the Viktoria 1910 Mainz-Mombach football club was born and Mombach now had two football clubs.

On August 16, 1920, FC Mombach 03 and FC Viktoria 1910 Mainz-Mombach merged to form the Mombach 03 football association . The home games were now held on the sports field on Suderstraße. For the 1932/33 season , the FVgg rose . 03 for the first time in the top division, the district league Main / Hessen, and played for a year with the regional football greats FSV Mainz, Wormatia Worms and SV Wiesbaden in a league. Due to the introduction of the Gauligen following this season, the team was downgraded to the second level again. During the Second World War, the game was suspended, with the end of which all sports clubs were dissolved. Since the French occupation forces initially forbade the establishment of a new club under the old club name, SG Eintracht Mombach was founded on April 24, 1946 and gaming operations resumed under this name. On July 16, 1949, the FVgg was re-established . 1903 Mainz-Mombach . Since 1975, after the establishment of FC Fortuna Mombach , there are again two football clubs in Mombach.

In the 1959/60 season, FVgg Mombach became champions of the 2nd Southwest Amateur League and rose to the 1st Southwest Amateur League . He was able to hold this class until the 1971/72 season. This ended the club as bottom of the table.

Since then the FVgg. 1903 Mainz-Mombach no longer appears nationwide and plays in the leagues of the Rheinhessen football district. At the end of the 2015/2016 season, the club was promoted to the 10th class B-Class Mainz-Bingen, but immediately relegated to the C-Class in the following season. After the 2019/20 season, which ended prematurely due to the corona outbreak , the team was able to celebrate promotion to the B class again due to the best points quotient.

Venue

The district sports facility, located at the end of the Langen Lein and in the immediate vicinity of the natural monument between Plantage and Erzbergerstraße, currently consists of a small hard court and two large fields, one of which is provided with natural grass and one with artificial turf.

As part of the increased activities of the Schott sports club, the natural grass pitch was given up in 2010 and two new, state-of-the-art artificial grass pitches were created. This allows permanent playability of the field and is therefore an advantage for all football clubs involved in Mombach. The unique hillside location for the standing grandstand will be retained in Mainz.
