Fabien Morel (born January 22, 1965 in Reims ) is a French mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry and algebraic topology .

Life

Morel received his doctorate in 1991 from the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot) under Jean Lannes ( Caractérisation des foncteurs homotopiques représentables par un espace pointé connexe et applications ) and was a professor there in the 2000s. Morel is currently a professor at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 2003 he held the Marston Morse Lectures at the Institute for Advanced Study ( Motivic Algebraic Topology ). With Wladimir Wojewodski (Voevodsky) he constructed the A 1 - homotopy theory of schemes in algebraic geometry and with Marc Levine the algebraic cobordism theory.

In 2006 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Madrid ( A 1 -algebraic topology ).
